Independent Monitor - Parliamentary Reports
The Independent Monitor is required by statute to submit an annual formal report to the Secretary of States each year. These are submitted to Parliament by Written Ministerial Statement.
The reports focus on:
- the quality of visa decision making in cases with limited appeal rights;
- the information available to visa applicants in categories that have a limited right of appeal if refused;
- how UK Border Agency responds to complaints from visa applicants refused with a limited right of appeal.
The Independent Monitor is able to make recommendations aimed at improving UK Border Agency's practice. There is a UK Border Agency team to ensure that the Monitor's recommendations, where accepted, are followed up and implemented.
